EP Committees vote on Packaging Waste Regulation

Three European Parliament committees adopted opinions on the proposed EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) last week. The amendments adopted by the Agriculture, Industry and Internal Market Committees will now be submitted to the Environment Committee, which leads the Parliament's work on the legislative project. The Environment Committee will consider those amendments when it votes on its draft report in September. Among other changes, the Industry (ITRE) Committee added a provision intended to promote closed-loop recycling of packaging waste: "Producers obliged to meet recycled content targets shall benefit from preferential access to the material derived from the recycled packaging", where this is environmentally benefitable and technically feasible. ...
