EU Packaging Regulation debated in EP's Environment Committee

The presentation of rapporteur Frédérique Ries' draft report on the proposal for the EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) was followed by a spirited debate and no little pushback at the meeting of the European Parliament's Environment Committee in the first week of May. Ms Ries described provisions on the reuse and refilling of packaging in Article 26 as the "Gordian knot" of the Commission's proposal and said the article "seems like a trial balloon". She said that she did not see sufficient consideration of the member states' best national practices or solid analyses in this part of the Commission's proposal....
