The EU Parliament approved a text on the proposed Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) at its plenary session on Wednesday afternoon which will serve as its negotiating mandate. The full text reflecting the adopted amendments was passed with a vote of 426 in favour, 125 against and 74 abstentions.
The amendments and additions backed in the plenary vote include a specific prevention target for plastic packaging waste. It is to be based on the annual quantity generated per inhabitant and is to apply in addition to a reduction target for the total amount of packaging waste from all materials which was already included in the EU Commission's original proposal....
