The volume of batteries collected in Europe continues to grow. However, almost all EU member states will have to make a considerable effort to raise the collection volumes in the coming years if they are to reach the targets set under the new EU Battery Regulation. Just a small fraction of member states currently reach the collection targets for 2027 and 2030.
Recent Eurostat statistics show that just about three-quarters of the EU member states met the current collection target of at least 45 per cent for portable batteries in 2021. Croatia was the only country with a rate high enough that it would also have complied with the 63 per cent target for 2027 and the 73 per cent for 2030....
