EuRIC is raising a number of concerns regarding amendments to the EU's proposed Critical Raw Materials ACT (CRMA), chief among them the creation of a "strategic secondary raw materials list" approved last week by the European Parliament. The recycling industry umbrella organisation described some of the newly added proposals as "biased", adding that they were not supported by scientific evidence and would lead to "further, unnecessary bureaucracy".
EuRIC stresses that the "classification of strategic raw materials must be based on irrefutable scientific evidence and adhere to a meticulous methodology". The list of strategic secondary raw materials was a last-minute addition to the draft legislative text, and according to EuRIC, the "inclusion of ferrous scrap without sufficient data sets an alarming precedent for the unrestricted addition of materials to the list, lacking clear conditions or a methodology for assessment....
