Lummus Technology and MOL Group collaborate on chemical recycling of waste plastic

The Hungarian oil and gas concern MOL Group has entered into a chemical recycling partnership with Lummus Technology, a Texas company which supplies process technologies and energy solutions. Lummus’ Green Circle business unit is to provide MOL with its pyrolysis technology for plastic waste. According to a joint statement issued by the companies on Tuesday, the focus of the cooperation would be MOL's assets in Hungary and Slovakia. The company operates one refinery and one petrochemical plant in each of those countries.

MOL explained that chemical recycling was tied to the role it will soon be taking on in the Hungarian waste management market, where it will replace the state as the main player in the sector. Last summer, the company won a tender for a 35-year waste management concession, under which it will manage "nearly 5 million tonnes of municipal solid waste". MOL will also operate Hungary's deposit return system (DRS) for beverage containers when it is launched....
