The European umbrella associations representing the recycling industry and the private waste management sector are critical of provisions relating to access to recycled material that were adopted by the European Parliament in its vote on the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). In separate statements, the European Recycling Industries' Confederation (EuRIC) described the proposed rules as an "intervention in free market principles” while the European Waste Management Association (FEAD) called them "a free market distortion”.
