"Strong year" for Stena Metall’s recycling business

25.10.2019 −

Swedish group Stena Metall has raised its annual turnover and net result in a difficult market environment. It was a "strong year" for the recycling business. The division achieved higher margins than in the previous year for all major waste streams while total volumes were nearly stable, according to the company’s report on the financial year 2018/19, which ended on 31 August. The recycling business, which includes the group’s Technoworld e-scrap treatment activities since the start of the financial year, generated earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) of SEK1.3bn, equivalent to around €123m. The business area’s turnover was not disclosed.

CEO Anders Jansson described the past year as "characterised by a troubled environment", marked by general uncertainty and with large price movements in the commodity markets. The "pessimistic picture" had been accentuated towards the end of the year. Stena Metall was "well equipped to handle the situation in the best possible way". However, if current market conditions persisted, "it will be more difficult to defend the fine results of the past year", Mr Jansson commented.
