EP Environment Committee votes to ban destruction of unsold textiles in Ecodesign Regulation

Much as the Council did last month, the Environment Committee of the European Parliament calls for the Ecodesign Regulation to directly ban the destruction of unsold textiles. Going a step further than the Council, the Committee also seeks to prohibit the destruction of unsold electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).

The members of the Environment Committee passed a series of amendments and approved their report on the proposed Ecodesign Regulation last Thursday. Their vote of 68 in favour, 12 against, and 8 abstentions clears the way for a plenary vote on the draft legislation in July. The text approved by the plenary will form the Parliament's negotiating position later this year when its delegation meets with representatives of the Council and the Commission for trilogue talks to develop the final text of a Regulation "establishing a framework for setting ecodesign requirements for sustainable products"....
