European Parliament for a wider ban on the destruction of unsold products

The European Parliament approved its negotiating position on the proposed Ecodesign Regulation on Wednesday. The report in which the plenary largely followed the recommendation of the Environment Committee was adopted with 473 votes in favour, 110 against and 69 abstentions. The Council adopted its general approach on the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) in late May.

In the next phase of the legislative procedure representatives of the Spanish Council presidency and the European Parliament will meet to hammer out differences between their positions in "trilogue" talks, which are also attended by representatives of the Commission.
